What is an Affirmation?

What?

An affirmation is a positive statement about you that is used to help you rewire your subconscious brain and turn negative thoughts into positive ones.

Why?

From early childhood, you were probably exposed to negative opinions about your personality and behaviour from your parents, relatives, teachers and others. After a while, this could have made you think negatively about yourself.

"You're lazy" becomes "I'm lazy"

"I didn't enjoy your presentation" becomes "I'm bad at presenting"

"Your grades aren't acceptable" becomes "I'm not a smart person"

Most likely, all of these comments were unfair or unjustified. Not only this, but they were also probably a result of these peoples' personal issues and nothing to do with you at all. However, as a child, you wouldn't have been aware of this and as a result you would have accepted them and they would have formed your own opinion about yourself.

To reverse this process, many people have found it useful to work with affirmations which can reprogram your unconscious mind and lead to a happier and more fulfilling life.

How?

The process is incredibly simple and does not need to take any extra time from your day.

All you need to do is regularly listen to the affirmations. This can be done while you are preparing food, going for a walk, sitting quietly or in any other way you choose.

In terms of the affirmations themselves, there are a lot of different ways they can be created and its best to chat with someone who has experience and can assist you.

When?

Why not now?

P.S. If you yourself are a parent and you want your child to feel loved and supported and have the best opportunities in the future, it is worth thinking about what language you use when talking with them.
