Even at an early age, I knew my life wasn't going well.
In an attempt to get back on track, I decided to go on a "self-help" course to see what the new craze was all about. It was to be the first of many...
Back-in-the-day, there was no such thing as the internet and certainly no YouTube. Courses had to be paid for in hard cash and you had to front up in person. And so it was Over 30 years ago now that I sat with an audience listening to John Kehoe talk about affirmations and visualisations.
I have to confess that, at the time, I wasn't convinced and it sounded like a whole lot of mumbo-jumbo. Nevertheless, I tried them for the duration of the course. In the end though, I gave up. Why? Well, it just wasn't producing the wonderful results that he said it would.
Fast-forward to present day and I find myself wishing I had stuck with the program.
What I know now, that I didn't know then, is that it takes time.
I can't put all my growth down to affirmations, but I'm certain that they play an important part.
If you're trying daily affirmations and not feeling that you're getting anywhere, I encourage you to start a daily journal. This way you can look back and realise that you're getting somewhere.

Many months ago, I was feeling depressed and wasn't participating in life at all. After a lot of internal reflection I decided that the main thing that was missing from my life was hope that there was a better future.
So, in desperation, I decided to try listening to affirmations about hope on YouTube. At the same time, I recommenced walking in the morning and read about Stoicism from Ryan Holiday which made me start writing a daily journal. Soon after I was lucky to be invited to a meditation course provided by Vajracaksu.
And thus my morning routine became:

After I started feeling hope again, I changed the affirmations to confidence. I think this one is a biggy for many people.
Of course, none of this is a panacea, but piece-by-piece it all helps.
